The First Delegates Conference of the Friends of SVD was held at Christ the King Parish in Accra on May 25, 2019 under the theme, “Our Vocation as SVD Lay Partners". The Parish Priest of Christ the King, Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell, SVD in his welcome address stressed on the indispensable role of the laity in the evangelization mission of the Church.

On 8 June, the eve of the Pentecost, the alumni of Divine Word School in Estella (1969-1975 batch), celebrated their annual meeting. After the initial reception and usual greetings, we celebrated the Eucharist presided by Lorenzo Goyeneche. It was a moment of reflection in which the festivity of the Pentecost was inviting us to recognize the way the Spirit of the Word had penetrated our lives and to express our commitment wherever we are to build a more just and equitable society.

The Annual Convention of our SVD Lay Associates, known here as FRIENDS OF SVD, was held from 26 – 28th October 2018, at St. Barnabas Parish, Eldoret. This parish is situated in Kimumu area and administered by the Divine Word Missionaries. The SVD Lay Associates meet once a year to share their experiences during the year.

Forty eight participants from the “Steyl Family” comprised of Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS), Sister-Servants of the Holy Spirit of Perpetual Adoration (SSPSAP), the Divine Word Missionaries and the Friends and Partners of Steyl (SFP, lay associate) gathered once again at the SSpS Covent for the Steyl Family Gathering from 23 to 25 of March 2018. It was an opportunity for the four families to come together and celebrate as members of the same family.

Nearly 260 people came to the provincial house for the gathering of lay collaborators and supporters on 5-6 May 2017 at Nha Trang. They are mostly benefactors, acquaintances, people assisting the confreres, helpers in a mission, catechists and so forth. This gathering was organized by the versatile Mission Secretary, Fr. Nguyen, Hiep Hoang Ignatius who has personal contact with most of these lay persons and travels widely to keep contact with them.
