The SVD and SSPS in Habana work together to run a feeding program for aged, “Dinning for the aged”. This project offers a plate of food at lunchtime to about 50 aged persons. These people come to our parish not only to get their warm plate of food but also spiritual nourishment.
However, during the current crisis of COVID-19 pandemic that the whole world is fighting, the Cuban government has taken measures for the people, especial for the elderly persons, to remain at home to protect them from being infected. Since they cannot come, we have to go to them wherever they are.
This is why we have taken the initiative to take food to them in their houses. As Cardinal Tagle said: “The social distancing should not drive us to forget our neighbour”. This is why the SVD and SSPS in Habana are working to strengthen their commitment towards the aged, preparing food and taking it to their doorstep, as well as giving them masks and sanitizers. The aged are very happy because of this gesture and in return, they offer us a smile of gratitude that inspire us to continue helping the needy, despite the sad reality that the coronavirus is causing.
