The Russian-made device, technically called the Ilizarov External Fixator arrived in the county late last year and it has been life saving equipment for patients with limb abnormality. equipment,”Ilizarov fixator” was named after a Russian surgeon who developed a ring fixator to treat very difficult bone patients in very remote parts of Russia in the sixties. This method has been developed and correctly used in specialized orthopaedic centres all over the world. Madang is the first province in the country to receive an Ilizarov Fixator machine.
