The image of an iceberg is often used to illustrate how much of cultures, contexts, and life situations are below the surface—that is, about 90%. Sincere attempts to acknowledge, understand, appreciate and bridge the differences among nationalities, ethnicities, “races”, generations, genders, personalities, and economic/social classes requires looking under the “water level.” That area can seem to be unclear, overly complex, and even contradictory at first, whether we are looking at our own “world,” but especially when plunging into the depths of the “world” of the “other.” And yet as Catholics and as missionaries, we believe that God’s grace and life can be discovered “in the depths” of those “worlds” of meaning, order and identity.

Imagine a typical African village. A village named Kpowé is of that nature, which is in the northern part of Togo. The nearest small town is some 10 km away. The source of water for people in this village is the Binah river, which runs 6 km away from the village. It is 6:30 in the Beno Mission, located about 70 km from the city of Bandundu, on the banks of the Kwilu River, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Among the trees, you can see the first rays of the sun. It is a sign that life is beginning in the Beno countryside. The marathon day of the "jungle missionary" is also started, as Fr. Diocese of Jaipur is newly erected Diocese in the year 2005. It is bifurcated from the Ajmer-Jaipur Diocese. It consists of 12 civil districts of Rajasthan namely; Alwar, Bikaner, Churu, Dausa, Hanumangarh, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Nagaur, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar and Sri Ganaganagar. Most Rev. Oswal Lewis, Coadjutor Bishop of Meerut was appointed by the Holy See as the first Bishop of Jaipur on July 20, 2005.

It was the dream of the Church in Asia to have a radio of their own to proclaim the Goodnews of Jesus to all Asian counties, which was realized when 100 bishops from Asia and Australia gathered at Manila in 1958. Their proposal to start a radio was approved by Pope John XXIII. But to start, the project had to face many hurdles including huge finances. By God’s grace many church organizations came forward to help and thus on 11th april, 1969 through short wave technic, the first broadcasting of Radio Veritas Asia took place in Manila, the capital of Philippines.

The 8th of September 2010 was a memorable day in the history of the Paraguayan province of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD), not only for the centenary celebration of missionary presence in Guarani land, but also for the commencement of a Radio communication project.

The Arnold Janssen festival is a music competition organized every year in honour of St. Arnold Janssen, the founder of the Divine Word Missionaries. It is aim is to promote the local culture and to make the congregation of the Divine Word known in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
