Faithful to Jesus' teaching, the Catholic social teaching values Option for the Poor and encourages each Christian to imitate Christ's love for the poor and the hungry. Brother Bernie Spitzley, SVD, who has been serving in Jamaica since 1999 and was recently appointed administrator of St. Patrick's parish in Kingston, Jamaica, regularly provides cooked meals for 30–35 people in need. The Christian community appreciates the initiative and has not hesitated to lend a hand in this apostolate. Small initiatives significantly change many people's lives, especially if they are done with much love.
