BALMELA 2018: A celebration day for street children and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS in Pune

Sarva Seva Sangh, Pune, of the Divine Word Missionaries in India, Mumbai province, a centre committed to the rehabilitation and empowerment of children at risk celebrated BALMELA 2018 on 5th November at Stella Maries School premises, Vadgaonsheri, Pune.

BALMELA is a day of celebration organized every year for street children and children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS, who are under the care of Sarva Seva Sangh. The celebration was inaugurated by Mr. Yogesh Mulik (Municipal Corporator) at 9.20 am. After the inauguration children enjoyed playing on various rides and fun games while other Municipal Corporators of the area, friends and well-wishers walked in to cheer the children.

The cultural program in the afternoon was made colourful with action songs and dances by the children. Chief Guest Mr. B.K. Makraria (Asst. Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, Pune), Fr. Malcolm (V.G. Poona Diocese), Sr. Rita (Provincial superior, Ursuline Sisters), and Senior Police Inspector Mr. Palaskar inspired the children with their words and presence. Later, an orchestra by Roxigen band rocked all the children, who danced to the rhythm of the music. After a day filled with fun and cheer, all children went back happily with a bag full of gifts. More than 750 children participated in the event. Thanks to all those who shared their valuable time and resources towards the success of BALMELA 2018.
